My husband is an active duty, 25-year veteran of the US Army. He currently serves as Command Sergeant Major in an Infantry Battalion.
RM was born in the summer of 2006, while my SGM was on his way home on leave from Afghanistan. He arrived to the hospital the next day. At nine days old, we received the diagnosis of 4q Deletion Syndrome.

At 15 days old, while still admitted to the children’s hospital, Daddy kissed his baby girl goodbye and headed back to work… it would be an exhausting round-trip to Bagram Airfield and back, as RM slipped into critical condition and a Red Cross message was sent to call SGM back immediately. RM would spend the next few weeks fighting… and the following three years growing stronger…

During his third overseas deployment in 2010, while stationed in Afghanistan, I made the most heartbreaking phone call to my husband… “Honey, our baby has autism.”
I can say that 7000 miles never felt farther away…

We are a military family first. We are proud. We are battle-tested, and we never question when duty calls.
We ALL serve.
I am honored to be married to the SGM. He is my best friend, my steadfast partner, and he always has my back. He lives and breathes his responsibilities to our great country, and he has numerous decorations to his credit. He applies that same committment to this family. He is fiercely protective, yet the most loving husband and father.
[Editor's Note: The Sergeant Major is currently home.]
