RM has been approved for a service dog from North Star Foundation here in Connecticut. The cost from birth to permanent placement is $15,000. The Foundation is able to support half of the cost through generous partners and benefactors, and we are proud to be called upon to participate in the remaining portion of fundraising to provide this much needed gift to RM.
Will you please help us reach our fundraising goal and also spread awareness for the amazing ways a service dog can change the life of a child like RM?
Once we reach our fundraising goal of $7,500 we are put on the active waiting list for a service dog. The wait for a pup is nine months to one year. A North Star puppy's education is taken very seriously during its first six months of life while it lives with its surrogate; then transfer to the family takes place as they become partners in training the dog to meet the child's specific needs. North Star staff remains available for support, with frequent visits, telephone calls, and e-mail.
We are especially lucky to have Patty, the Founder, live so close by that she has agreed to be our surrogate and trainer!
